In recent years The Jamaican economy has shown signs of improvement with expectations to grow at 1-2% over the medium term.
Despite Jamaica’s impressive turnaround, progress is in a fragile state. The country’s most daunting challenge is serious social issues that mostly affect youth, specifically violence and high unemployment.
The unemployment rate in Jamaica is at about 13.4% (March 2014), which presents its own challenges; however it is compounded by unemployment for youth approaching 27%.
To continue progress Jamaica will have to improve its global productivity and competitiveness, while also overcoming its social challenges…..
